As 2023 drew to a close, the People of Wekiwa Springs (POWS) gathered in the heart of their beloved community for an unforgettable end-of-year celebration.
The event, held on December 5th in the welcoming confines of the Wekiwa Springs Baptist Church’s general assembly room, was not just a party but a testament to the spirit of togetherness, generosity, and communal joy that defines this vibrant corner of northwest Orange County, Florida.
The assembly room, transformed into a festive haven by the talented POWS member Kathy Gill, buzzed with the warm energy of neighbors coming together. The tables, adorned with tasteful decorations, reflected the light-hearted and joyful mood of the attendees. The occasion was made even more special by the presence of many local citizen member-heroes throughout the community who had made the event possible.
With her tireless efforts, Debbie Mills had reached out to local stores, rallying support and securing donations that were crucial for the evening’s success. A key figure in the evening’s success was Jeff Nardeoli, the manager of Publix on Welch & Rock Springs Rd. His generous donation of gift cards was instrumental in ensuring a feast fit for the occasion.
It wasn’t just about the food, though. It was about the sense of community that comes from sharing a meal together, a sentiment echoed in the diverse and delicious dishes prepared by the many hands of POWS volunteers.
As guests mingled and laughed, sharing stories and plans for the new year, the room was filled with various culinary delights. From savory appetizers to hearty main courses, each dish represented the diverse tastes and talents within the community. The desserts, a dazzling array of homemade treats, were the crowning glory of the meal, each bite a sweet reminder of the community’s shared values and aspirations.
A highlight of the evening was the heartfelt remarks by Sue Henesy, President of POWS. Her words resonated with everyone present, encapsulating the journey and achievements of the community association in 2023.
Her message was clear and inspiring: by supporting each other, we create a more beautiful, desirable, and supportive community – a place where everyone is eager to live and contribute.
This gathering was more than just a celebration; it reflected what the People of Wekiwa Springs stand for. As an association dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in Wekiwa Springs, POWS has taken significant strides in building a cohesive community. Their efforts in beautifying Votaw Rd, engaging with HOAs, and planning future projects are commendable steps towards realizing their vision of a close-knit, caring community.
As the evening wound down, the air was thick with a sense of accomplishment and anticipation for the future. The People of Wekiwa Springs had not just celebrated the end of a year; they had reaffirmed their commitment to each other and their community.
Finally, Deb Peterson was there from the first of the prep team arriving until the final guest walked out, the last light was switched off, and the doors were secured. She is just another example of the true embodiment of POWS’s commitment to volunteerism, where people of the community come together, offering their support to create a memorable and enjoyable experience for all.
