A Fusion of Art, Nature, and Community
The vibrant community of Wekiwa Springs has always been a beacon of natural beauty and communal harmony. This year, in the Spring of 2023, The People of Wekiwa Springs Association, Inc., in collaboration with the gifted mural artist Delia Miller, took a step to enliven the streets of this beautiful community further.
As part of the People of Wekiwa Springs Association’s entry for the prestigious 2023 Orange County District 2 Corridor of the Year program, sponsored by Orange County Commissioner Christine Moore, a local convenience store at the strategic corner of Votaw and Thompson Road underwent a mesmerizing transformation.
Previously just a 4-way stop, this location now boasts an exquisite mural, encapsulating the essence of Wekiwa Springs’ rich ecosystem. From the intricate details of the local flora and fauna to the majestic wildlife and natural resources, the mural is a feast for the eyes. Adding a touch of whimsy, a delightful depiction of a slumbering bear cub can be seen overseeing the landscape, an image so endearing that Clay Springe Elementary School adopted it as their new mascot!
This mural’s grandeur became the focal point of the first annual Easter Egg Hunt on April 1, 2023. Hosted by the People of Wekiwa Springs Association, the event saw the presence of numerous dignitaries from Orange County, the Apopka City government, and various civic organizations. It was not just an unveiling but a celebration of community, art, and nature.
Beyond the visual spectacle, the mural promises durability and longevity. A protective layer specially coats the masterpiece, ensuring its resilience against the elements and that future generations will enjoy witnessing its splendor.
There’s exciting news for those who wish to carry a piece of this artistry with them. The People of Wekiwa Springs Association has commissioned a limited edition of 200 exquisite mural prints. Each print is individually numbered and carries the artist Delia Miller’s signature, making it not just a piece of art but a collector’s item.
