August 2026 Meeting Minutes

POWS Board Meeting 08/10/2026

The meeting was called to order at 6:30pm. In attendance were; Sue Garich, Tammy Garich, Angela Norwood, Kelly Dawson and Jeff Engelbrecht

There was no board meeting in July. There were no members’ meetings held in July or August. 

In mid-July Tammy received a text message from Debby Stevens stating she was resigning from her position as Vice President because she was moving out of the area. Tammy then sent a message to the remaining board members nominating Kelly Dawson as her replacement, the board agreed with the nomination.  Kelly was asked and agreed to take the position; she was officially announced as vice president at this meeting.

On July 10^th Tammy received an email from Kathy Marsh (Orange County District 2 Senior Aide) stating that the accounting department asked her about a check that was made payable to POWS but was never cashed. This was the prize money for winning the corridor of year award in 2024. The original check would be expired by this time, so they reissued the check. The check was received by Tammy on August 10^th and deposited into the POWS checking account.

The PO Box at the Hunt Club UPS store came due on 8/9. We found no reason to renew due to no use, and all tax and organizational documentation must be sent to a residence which is now Tammy Garich’s address. 

Recognizing the low meeting attendance and community participation, we discussed the future of the POWS group.  It was agreed that we should reach out to POSA to see if there is interest in collaborating on events and possibly reaching out to the new group Strong Towns Apopka to do the same. The future of the POWS group will be discussed with the members at the next meeting.

Christine Moore contacted Kelly and asked POWS to participate in the Strong Towns Apopka trail project.  The details will be presented to the members at the next meeting as well as an email and on Facebook.  Kelly will be the liaison between POWS and Christine Moore.

Events for the rest of the year were discussed; Trunk or Treat will be brought to the members at the next meeting.
