What They Do

Orange County Consumer Protection Department works to keep you safe from fraud whether it’s a local business or a national company. They can also direct you to other agencies and divisions for fraud that falls under specific laws and rules as necessary. Please note while many times this group can get a resolution to an issue they cannot do the following:

  • Provide legal assistance

You need your own private attorney. If you need help please contact the Florida Bar at (850) 561-5600.

  • Represent you in a legal dispute

They are not lawyers and cannot legally represent you but can offer advice about what is a scam or not.

  • Force or order a specific resolution

OC Consumer Protection cannot order or force a business to provide a specific resolution.

“An informed community is less vulnerable to fraud and abuse.”

File a Complaint

If you believe that you are a victim of unfair, deceptive, or illegal business practices, you may want to file a complaint.

TIMESHARE COMPLAINTS – The Orange County Consumer Protection Office does not have authority over timeshares/vacation clubs. Timeshare complaints should be directed to the Florida Dept. of Business & Professional Regulation, Division of Florida Condominiums, Timeshares, and Mobile Homes.

Before Filing Your Complaint

Make an attempt to speak with the business manager or owner. Many businesses are eager to resolve complaints and keep customers happy.

For complaints submitted to our office, it will be assigned to staff for review. Our office may then:

  • Request the business to respond to your complaint
  • Refer your complaint to the appropriate state or federal agency
  • Make a site visit to the business location to ensure compliance

REMEMBER: For complaints submitted to outside agencies, please contact the agency directly if you have any questions about its process.
