POWS Board Meeting 09/09/2025

The meeting was called to order at 6:30pm.

We discussed Trunk or Treat; Jeff’s Bagel Run will be sponsoring the production of 1000 flyers to announce Trunk or Treat.  The flyers will go out to local businesses and surrounding elementary and middle schools.  There is a sign-up form on the website for anyone who would like to participate.  The board members will be contacting HOA’s to see if they would like to participate.

Sue has provided the Wekiva High School with a list of our upcoming events.

St. Francis Church has a food pantry; we will arrange a food drive for them in the future.  Tammy is going to talk to Jane, the leader of HOPE of Apopka, to see if she would come and speak at a POWS meeting.

There is a cable or wire hanging over the Welcome to Wekiva sign, Sue will call to get it removed.

We will arrange clean up days November-January.  Board members will be riding around the area to see where the clean up needs are.  These locations will be presented at the next POWS meeting to determine where to go.  We will collaborate with other groups to help with the clean ups.

Next meeting we will discuss the Christmas party.

Meeting was adjourned at 7:00pm

POWS Meeting 09/09/2025

Meeting was called to order at 7:00pm

Our speaker was Katrina Shadix, the Executive Director of Bear Warriors United.  Ms. Shadix had a family emergency and could not attend.

The meeting minutes from the last meeting can be found on the website.

Old Business: we have collected 160lbs of food for HOPE for Apopka food drive so far.  It will go until 09/20/2025.  Rick’s company printed food drive flyers with no cost to the POWS group.  There are bags at Sprouts, you can drop off there, Stephie’s Pub and Rosati’s Pizza.

10/25/2025 will be Trunk or Treat.  Jeff’s Bagel Run will be paying for the flyers to be made.  They will also be at the event handing out coupons and possibly samples.  The board members will call the surrounding HOA’s to see if they would like to participate.  There is a sign-up form on the website for anyone wanting to participate in Trunk or Treat.

We will be coordinating four clean up events to take place in the cooler months.  If there is an area you would like to see cleaned let a board member know.  The board will look at areas and present them to the group at the next meeting.

A homeowner from Breezy Heights asked if anything could be done legally to prevent the construction workers from parking on the entrance way.  It was stated that this was an easement and probably had no legal rights.  Sue H. will call Cathy at Christine Moore’s office to see if they can get the construction company to repair the damage.   Pat will email photos to Sue H.

It was discussed how to get the carwash tent removed from in front of the mural on Thompson and Votaw.  A member of the POWS group will talk to the store owner.  Everyone was encouraged to take pictures and call 311.

Christine Moore’s bike event is 09/20/2025, she is looking for volunteers.  There will be a sign-up sheet on the website.  POWS will have a table there as well.

A member suggested that we have a “meet the candidates” for district 2.  Sue H. will coordinate to have at the February meeting.
